Women's Breakfast May 2015
It is always a treat to be pampered with a special breakfast at HCUC and this Saturday morning was no exception. We were seated at attractively decorated tables and served fresh ham and cheese croissants, fruit juice, tea and coffee. Later young Solomon skillfully weaved his way around the tables and politely offered platters of fruit. The highlight of the morning was our speaker, Rev Frances Bartholomeusz. Francis is a chaplin at Resthaven Murray Bridge and also at the Adelaide Women's Prison at Northfield. She spoke on Ministering to Women on the Inside. Francis painted a picture of the prison envirnoment and conditions. She shared her insights on relating to the women:
~ spiritual healing is what brings healing to people
~ God is Love
~ listen to people's stories ~ show respect, compassion and humility
Francis read several moving poems from the magazine 'Captive Minds', which shares the women's emotions, thoughts and creativity.
Francis affirmed the example for her life and relationships is Jesus, who drew alongside people and accepted them where they are. Reflecting on my notes from her talk, I see that these values and skills are valuable reminders for all our interactions with God's children, wherever we may meet.
